Family fun
Dawlish is great for families. It has a sandy beach and a host of activities including boat trips, lawn bowls, arcades and crazy golf. There is a museum, theatre and plenty of day trips by train, ferry or car to local zoos, castles and beaches.
Dawlish Warren
You can hire beach huts, parasols and deck chairs. If you want to try out some watersports try Exe Adventures who run local activities and events, as well as hiring kayaks and stand up paddle boards.
Just off the beach you will find a host of family amusements, attractions, activities, restaurants, pubs and more – from go karts, adventure golf, children’s play area and more.
Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve
There is over 500 acres of protected grassland, sand dunes, mudflats and centres home to over 600 different species of plants and over 23,000 wildfowl and wading birds –so if you like bird watching, it's the best place to be. The onsite Visitor Centre has guided walks and events for all ages throughout the year
Teignmouth Lido
Teignmouth Lido is a heated and welcoming outdoor pool with some kids' fun sessions offered. There's at least one qualified lifeguard standing guard throughout every session and you can snack it up to refuel between mad paddles at the onsite refreshment kiosk.
Shaldon
If you want to explore the local area but don’t want to take the car, you can travel to Teignmouth on the train and then take the oldest passenger ferry in England to Shaldon. Shaldon has a beach, cafes, Shaldon Wildlife Trust zoo, Pitch and Putt and smugglers’ tunnel to explore.
Powderham Castle
Powderham Castle lies in a beautiful deer park on the banks of the River Exe, just a stone's throw from the historic cathedral city of Exeter. The Castle was first opened to visitors in 1959, since then in excess of a million people have been through the doors to share in over 600 years of history and heritage and take away many fond memories.
